Akhila Krishnan is a visual artist, film-maker, writer and designer who works between London and India.
Her practice explores the relationship between the material and the temporal; moving between sequential storytelling, moving image (for screen and live environments) and textiles. Her interest and background in documentary film-making tempers her approach to her comic and illustration work, which often takes inspiration from real events; incorporating processes of interviewing, journaling and reportage. She regularly self-publishes her work; producing unique and bespoke limited edition print runs incorporating specialist papers, printing techniques including screen and riso printing, as well as stitching, embroidery and hand-binding.
Akhila has worked with Random House Publishing, Penguin Books, Mapin Publishing, Manta Ray Comics, Chimera, 100% Zine, Hindustan Times, LiveMint, Forbes Magazine and The Gaysi Zine. She is a member of the Kadak Collective and has recently been shortlisted for the Laydeez Comics Prize (2018).
